Project Spotlight
DFW Airport Terminals A and B
After traffic deck coating from a previous installer failed, DFW International Airport looked to SCS to recoat parking structures in Terminals A and B. The DFW Airport Development & Engineering Department contracted SCS directly to recoat the arrivals upper level roadway and sidewalks.
SCS was awarded the project after 4 contractors submitted bids for this publicly advertised open project. In the end, SCS was able to fully demonstrate proof of technical skills on similar installations before being awarded the contract.
SCS began on site activities in late September 2008 and is targeting a completed punch list on March 6th, 2009.
This schedule experienced a 30 day interruption for Thanksgiving & Christmas Holiday Travel Black-Out Dates imposed by American Airlines, which halted work on the project.
Key attributes of this important project include:
On time delivery of a high profile environment
Performed work safely and efficiently at one of North America’s busiest airports
Removal of 320,000 SF of the existing failed coating had to be completed between 11:00 pm and 4:30 am nightly
Installation of the 336,000 SF New Traffic Deck Coating was completed during the daylight hours by closing a section of each terminal for a 7 Day / 24 Hour Complete Roadway Closure. To do this SCS had to establish a Traffic Control Plan & Barricades to still provide access to the remaining Terminals & Parking Garages.
Installation included the Upper Level Roadway Traffic Control Markings to DOT Standards.
All scope of work items except the Traffic Control Markings were completed by SCS Crews.
No Lost Time Accidents for SCS Crews.
Project complete 30 Days in advance of contract documents.
Materials used to complete this project included:
20,000 Gallons of Epoxy Coating
100,000 LBS of Colored Quartz Aggregate
500 Gallons of Joint Sealants
600 LF of Expansion Joint Cover Plates
SCS is proud of this, the largest single project we have completed in our 15-year history. We are grateful to the members of our team who put in the time and energy with the skill and effort to make this project the success it has been. And we are most appreciative of the DFW Airport Development & Engineering Department.
